About Katsushika Hokusai
Katsushika Hokusai was a genius painter and ukiyo-e artist who was active during Japan's Edo Period (1603-1868).
His works were extraordinarily varied, from portraits of actors and beautiful women to landscapes, bird-and-flower paintings, and even shunga (a type of Japanese erotic art).
His most celebrated masterpiece is titled Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji, a series of woodblock prints that capture Mount Fuji from bold and unexpected perspectives across Japan.
With unrivalled skill and a boundless imagination, Hokusai brought strikingly different visions of Mount Fuji to life.
More than a century after his death, his diverse body of work continues to gain even greater aclaim and he is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest artists.
